RECORD EXAM RESULTS

A LEVEL

These are an excellent set of results overall. The average point score is a record and many other aspects of the results are very good indeed, even though this is one of largest ever cohorts with a very wide spread of ability.

This was the first year of the new A* grade and we are very pleased that 14% of the girls achieved A* in one or more subjects. 78% of grades were at C or above which is a strong performance for a genuinely comprehensive 6th form. Value added results are awaited but we expect these to be very good, maintaining our consistently high performance at enabling girls to achieve above and beyond their potential.

The overall breakdown of results is as follows:

   %
A* 6.6
A 12.5
B 29.4
C 29.4
D 15.0
E 6.9
U 0.3

There were some excellent individual results including:

Imam Abbass  AAAb
Laura Aitken Burt  A*AAaa  -  place at Oxford (Archaeology and Anthropology)
Louise Carey A*A*Aab  -  place at Oxford (English Literature)
Amy Garrood     A*A*A*Aa  - Psychology at Birmingham
Bansi Patani  A*A*AAb - Medicine
Hannah Ring   A*AAbc
Sara Shibani     A*AAbc
Yasmin Shibani  A*AAb
Marieca Pegg  A*A*ABa

Despite the nationwide shortage of places, most girls achieved their offers or were offered alternative courses at their chosen university.

GCSE

It was a record breaking year at GCSE with the following records all falling

  • The 5A*-C figure is the highest ever achieved at QEGS
  • 5 A*-C including English and Maths (the new benchmark for league tables etc) is also a record for QEGS. 78% achieving 5A*-C incl English and Mathematics exceeds the target of 72% by a significant margin
  • 97% achieved at least 1 C grade (which is outstanding for a comprehensive school)
  • 41% of grades were at A and A* which is also a record by a considerable margin

The headline figures for the year group are:

% 5 A*-C   87% (84% in 2009, 75% in 2008, 72% in 2007)
% 5 A*-G   99   (95%, 93%,98%)
% 5 A*-C incl En&Ma   78  (66%, 55%, 59%)
% 1+A*-G    100  (99%, 98%,100%)
Average total points 482.6  (429, 406, 408)

The 5A*-C including English and Maths is much the most difficult of the benchmarks to improve and to have made such a change over 2 years would be fantastic in any school, but to have achieved it in an already high achieving school is especially pleasing.

25 girls achieved 10 or more results at A or A* (9 last year) and 57% of the cohort achieved at least 3 A*/A grades which is outstanding. Naomi Biggins was this year’s highest achiever achieved 8.5 A* and 3 A grades. Overall, these are very, very pleasing results for a school with a genuinely comprehensive intake.

These results are testament to the hard work and commitment of able students and staff, working with the support of parents and the wider school community.

Everyone at QEGS is very proud of the achievements of our girls this year.
