Commemoration Day 2026

Commemoration Day Service

Following a tradition established over 100 years ago, the Headteacher led a procession of staff and students from Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School to St John the Baptist Church on Barnet High Street.  Several invited dignitaries including Martin Russell, Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London; The Worshipful, The Mayor; Cllr Dan Rich; Dame Theresa Villiers; MP Dan Tomlinson;  Mr Neil Marlow, Chief Executive and Director of Education and Learning; Mrs Gill Williams, Secretary of The Guild; Mr Neil Enright, Headmaster, Queen Elizabeth’s School joined the school community for a special Commemoration Day service.

As is customary, the Headteacher read 'The Act of Commemoration' and the school orchestra and choir performed several pieces.  In a relatively new tradition, students from our diverse and inclusive community read affirmations of their own faiths. The school song was resurrected after many decades and sung by the chamber choir.

We are grateful to all who supported the Commemoration Day service and to Reverend Cindy Kent, MBE for leading the service at St John the Baptist Church.

Commemoration Day Cake Competition

In another tradition, tutor groups were invited to bake and decorate a cake in honour of Commemoration Day.  This year, the decoration theme was ‘Give to Gain, the official global campaign theme for International Women's Day.  After some tense judging, students then returned to their tutor groups with their cakes  in order to enjoy them together.

A selection of the cakes that were created can be viewed below:

QE Guild Lunch

On Saturday 15th May, our School Guild hosted their annual luncheon.  Former students reunited to peruse exhibits from the school archives and to reminisce over lunch.  We are very proud of our long-established Guild which dates back to 1927.
